2,166.66. Two thousand one hundred sixty-six and two-thirds years is how long it takes the Earth to move through one astrological sign in the heavens. December 21, 2012 is the last day of the last degree in the astrological chart of the sky the Earth will traverse. This is why it takes 26,000 years for the Earth to move through all 12 signs of the zodiac traveling a full 360 degrees.  Astronomically and Astrologically, it is a big deal to be alive and experience this feat.  After December 21, 2012, the cycle of the Earth moving through the astrological signs begins again.

The Mayan calendar begins August 11, 3114 B.C.E. During that time, historically, there were already civilizations flourishing. Egyptians were thriving much earlier in 4000 to 3500 B.C.E. along with the Mesopotamian culture (modern day Iraq). These dates are just a sampling of cultures that pre-date the Maya and the calendar by several hundred and thousands of years.  Click this link to learn more.  Just because an ancient civilization's calendar began on a certain date, that does not mean that suddenly "life on earth" began. Eastern civilizations had been in existence thousands of years prior to this Mayan date.

No one knows why the Maya plopped their existence (calendar) on August 11, 3114 (B.C.E.) in the middle of an Earth that was already civilized on several continents; and for that matter, no one knows why the Maya stopped the calendar on December 12, 2012. What is known about the calendar and Mayan culture is that, like other ancient civilizations, they relied heavily on interpreting the cycles of the Sun, cycles of the Moon and the constellations moving in the sky, our beautiful stars.

Though the Mayan calendar ends December 21, 2012 A.D., I am confident current civilizations will still be flourishing. Life will continue hundreds and thousands of years post-Mayan calendar. Just because an ancient civilization's calendar ends on a certain date, that does not mean that suddenly "life on earth" will end. We will all go on to live beyond this Mayan date.

I once went to a small lecture where the speaker told people to have their passports ready in case the ice caps melt or some other horrorific natural disaster occurs. He also stated that he and other psychics were unable to see futures for people (when giving psychic readings) beyond December 21, 2012. I was bitterly dissapointed by his remarks. I am psychic and I can type this with certainty that life will go on beyond December 21, 2012; and furthermore, I do in fact see futures for people beyond this date.  I find it extremely irresponsible of people within the Spiritual community to go spouting off B.S. based on their own fears. Unfortunately, this man was speaking to a crowd of 20-30 based on fear.  If you went to high school, you know how information or gossip travels. Each of those 20-30 people then told another 3-5 people thereby compounding that one man's fear exponentially. I was extremely disappointed by this man. Though I will not name him here, I will say to be very careful about doomsday prophecies.  These prophecies have been disseminated since time immemorial - this is not a new phenomenon to hear the world will end. One thing needs to also be stated, and that is that the Mayans did not specifically prophesy that the world will end.  That is an interpretation that we, in the 21st century are imposing on the calendar - it does not state anything other than it does not list any dates beyond December 21, 2012. The truth is this: some day the world will end. But no one knows when so, my advice is to stop living in fear of a future that may or may not happen in your lifetime. Instead, start living authentically and fully right now in spite of the knowledge that the world will end some day.  That stated, the only reason I think you need to have your passport ready is to take a nice vacation with friends or family - period.
